commit=30 on the root fs, journald capped at 100M, smartmontools disabled.
The neon root is a microSD card in the built-in slot (USB-attached reader),
not an external USB card; wording fixed across docs and the install script.

Persist vm.swappiness=100 in /etc/sysctl.d/99-zram.conf and delete the
unused /swapfile. New NEON-CUSTOMIZATIONS.md covers keyd, USB-C DP
modules, HWE-edge kernel, tmpfs /tmp and localepurge, r8152 DKMS
history, tailscale, and third-party repos/tools.

Standalone doc covering install/reinstall via install-flex-emmc.sh, why a
raw dd boots as live media, chromeos-install-from-Linux gotchas, the
resulting layout, and boot selection. CLAUDE.md keeps a short quick
reference pointing to it.

The earlier raw dd of the Flex recovery image left the installer layout
(2MB ROOT-B placeholder, fixed 6GB STATE), so Flex booted as live media
and couldn't A/B update. The script runs the image's own chromeos-install
against the eMMC from neon, chrooted into the image in a private mount
namespace with all other disks masked. Handles the cros_efi cmdline
requirement, udisks auto-mount interference, and unreliable exit status.
Tested end to end on hp-chell.

An apt upgrade switched the display manager from SDDM to plasmalogin,
whose kwin_wayland greeter never runs the SDDM Xsetup hook. Add a
plasma-login.service user drop-in that cycles DPMS off/on with
kscreen-doctor on 7.x kernels, forcing the full modeset that un-sticks
i915 pipe A (a plain resolution change is absorbed by the eDP panel
fitter and doesn't help). Verified across a cold reboot.
